Summary: | Large local buckling, Vierendeel bending failure mechanism and web-post buckling are the main critical drawbacks that may disrupt the integrity of the steel members, especially cellular steel beams (CSBs). The aim of this research is to investigate numerical behavior of naked steel beam at elevated temperature. It is expected that local buckling on naked steel beam will occurred due to extreme fire load applied with additional applied load on top of the steel beam. Traditionally prescriptive based approach does not consider several important factors that may affect the structural strength of the structural steel member. A new, reliable performance based approach will be use to predict the fire resistance performance of the naked steel beam. Validation process of naked steel beam will be perform between Compendium of UK Standard Fire Test Data (compiled by Tata Steel) against numerical analysis performed in this research. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
