Heterocyclic compounds of benzimidazole and oxadiazole are considered as important class of compounds in medicinal chemistry because of their interesting diversified biological activities. A series of new benzimidazole bearing oxadiazole derivatives have been conveniently synthesized by intermolecular oxidative cyclization of benzimidazole benzoyl hydrazide promoted by iodobenzene diacetate as an oxidant. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods namely 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Infrared (IR), Mass Spectrometry (MS) and melting point. © 2016, Malaysian Society of Analytical Sciences.
