Implementation of disaster management policy in Malaysia and its compliance towards international disaster management framework

Many disasters have occurred in Malaysia since its independence in 1957, and due to that reason, the Malaysia National Security Council Directive 20 (MNSC 20) was developed. Significant changes in how disasters unfold and the introduction of international framework in disaster management has made the MNSC 20 to be outdated. In 2012, the revised revision of MNSC 20 was published. Significant changes were identified in the revised version of MNSC 20. Eight (8) significant changes of MNSC 20 which comply with international disaster management framework (HFA and APEC-EPWG) were identified. The urgency of this study will impact the relevant agencies involved in disaster management to support the MNSC 20 with proper strategic disaster management documentation. © 2016 International Information Institute.
