Instrumentation of digital-propeller-anemometer

The science of instrumentation is a fundamental importance to engineers, scientist and medical workers. Instruments are the eyes and ears of the technologists. Without sensors and their associated signal processing systems there would be no modern instrument. In this paper the development of Digital...

The science of instrumentation is a fundamental importance to engineers, scientist and medical workers. Instruments are the eyes and ears of the technologists. Without sensors and their associated signal processing systems there would be no modern instrument. In this paper the development of Digital-Propeller-Anemometer (DPA) is used specifically for measuring wind velocity. It involved with few sets of instrumentation process and equipment. The process includes physical and signal interfacing, logic interfacing and data transmission to computer. It involved three major parts, mechanical, electrical and computer. The instrument used an integrated sensor, which was Slotted Opto Switch sensor. The measurand of the instrumentation was the rotational speed of the shaft and the output data was wind velocity in m/s. For the final result, the instrument was calibrated in wind tunnel using Hot Wire Anemometer. © 2003 IEEE.
