This paper describes multi-user effects and calculation of the BER (bit error rate) in 3G mobile systems using Simulink MATLAB 5.3.1. The model for the system is constructed using block diagrams in Simulink library and fulfills the characteristics of the system. Gaussian approximation defines the multi-user. Gaussian approximation is used to determine the bit error rate in CDMA, multiple access, and communication systems. The BER is calculated by comparing the transmitting data and receiving data. The multi-user effect and BER is evaluated at different data rates. © 2003 IEEE.
