The Problem Areas in Diabetes Scale (PAID) was translated using forward and backward translations following a predefined set of guidelines. The sample consists of 46 Malay patients from a public hospital in Malaysia. The PAID scale was found to have high internal consistency (Cronbach's Alpha value = 0.921). The patients suffered from mild diabetes distress having an average PAID score of 39.4. The findings gave support of convergent validity with a significant association (Pearson correlation = 0.081; p<0.05) between PAID score and HbA1c values. The Malay version of PAID was found to be reliable and valid among Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients.
