Description
Summary:Image segmentation is a challenging task in the area of image processing and has been researched for the last four decades. Until now, a tremendous number of segmentation algorithms can be found in many researches. A review of existing image segmentation techniques is vital for a researcher who would want to embark on this exciting research area. Generally, there are many reviews conducted on image segmentation but a special attention needs to be focused on segmentation of images with repetitive patterns. Segmentation of repetitive patterns involves grouping the repeated patterns in a meaningful structure. This paper presents an exhaustive review of digital image segmentation for repetitive patterns. In addition, a general process flow of segmenting images of repetitive patterns is proposed. This review will be useful in the development and improvement of new techniques in the future. © 2014 American Scientific Publishers All rights reserved.
