Many plants are found to be effective in the management of lifestyle diseases, there is an increased focus on herbal medicines in recent times. DIA7 is the Polyherbal formulation containing multiple ingredients of herbal origin, which are individually used in traditional system of medicine in the treatment of various metabolic disorders including Diabetic Mellitus. DIA7 consists of seven medicinal plants namely Salacia reticilata, Aegle marmelose, Azadirachta indica, Curcuma longa, Trigonella foenum graecum, Nigella sativa and Embilica officinalis. The above dried ingredients were powdered and formulated as DIA7 and administered orally to the animals by suspending in 0.5% Carboxy Methyl Cellulose solution. The effect of the Polyherbal Formulation DIA7 on fasting blood glucose level was evaluated by treatment with three dose levels i.e. 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg/day orally in both Alloxan induced diabetic rats for 28 days. From the study, DIA7 was found to be very effective in control of fasting blood glucose level in Alloxan induced diabetic rats, at a dose level of 400 mg/kg. The study indicates that the various active principles in DIA7 had produced a combined effect on fasting blood sugar level of the experimental rats.
