This research is to study, measure and analyze the signal strength for Celcom GSM [019] and Maxis [012] in UiTM Shah Alam campus. Measurements and data collection of the signal strength is done using TEMS investigation equipment provided by Celcom (M) Sdn. Bhd, Kelana Jaya and Maxis. TEMS is a tool for setting up and maintaining a mobile cellular network. It measures the received signal strength from the 'base transceiver station' (BTS) in terms of ERP (effective radiated power). Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment is also used to get the coordinate and elevation at 31 points throughout campus. For one selected point, measurement is taken in the morning, afternoon, evening and night to see if there is any variation in the signal strength at different times. Data analysis includes comparison between signal strength and position, time, elevation and distance from base station. Some recommendation is given to improve the radio coverage in UiTM area. © 2002 IEEE.
