Interest in Interior design is growing significantly nowadays. Same with other construction work, the successful interior project is normally upon delivery of the project. The importance of the project manager in the delivery of successful projects has to deal with the knowledge, skills and personal attributes required of an effective project manager. Hence, it is time to review our understanding of project management education and reflect about how we develop project managers for interior design to deal with uncertainty in project environments. This paper draws on discussion of current perspectives and concepts of project management education that may help to develop the abilities of interior design project managers today. First, is to describe the evolution of project management and project management competence. In particular of that, our review of the literature of project management is focus on consistency of the field and on preparation for the professional designation of project managers. Next, is to lay out the current approaches of interior design education by selected institution according to The Professional Interior Design book of knowledge and discuss the subject of project management and impact on the requirements for professional development of interior design project managers. Then, for the selected work position in the higher level of interior design, we do a comparison between interior design core competence and IDBOK. Finally, outline and discuss the requirements for preparing project managers to deal with complexity of projects and characteristics of an appropriate framework of project management in interior design education. © Common Ground, Nur Maizura Ahmad Noorhani, All Rights Reserved.
