The paper intends to look in depth at the relationship between SDL readiness and the Malay cultural values. The Self-directed Learning Readiness Survey (SDLRS) was distributed to twenty adult learners in distance learning mode. Three respondents were chosen for this study. The respondents were asked to keep a journal entry, observed during class and finally interviewed at the end of the study. This study seems to indicate that culture could be a strong influence and may affect their communication and learning strategies in the classroom. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
