Description
Summary:The primary objective of the research project is to utilize large diameter solid core optical fibers to collect, concentrate and distribute daylight passively throughout residential or commercial buildings to reduce the power consumption required for lighting the interiors of building structures.. A light sensor, phase detector and a triac driver circuit are developed for controlling and combining daylight with electrical light. This project also demonstrates the application of the fuzzy logic control technique for automated lighting and dimming for passive fiber optic daylighting system. Measurements of intensity and occupancy in a room are used by the fuzzy system to control both parameters in order to attain a constant level of illuminance in a model room. The fuzzy logic control, employing the Centre-of-Maximum (COM) defuzzification, has shown to be successful in maintaining the illuminance of a suitably sized model room of a house, thus proving that energy power savings and energy efficiency can be achieved in Malaysian buildings.
