Description
Summary:The extinction ratio, switching contrast and amplitude modulation (AM) characteristic of a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) based Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) as an all-optical add-drop multiplexer (AO-ADM) were analyzed. The nonzero phase shift in the complementary demultiplexing period leads to switching the signal of the transmitted channel to the dropped channel. The results show that the switching performance can be improved by optimizing the splitting ratio of the couplers.
